ABOUT PICKING THE RIGHT COMPANY AS YOUR TAX REPRESENTATIVE.

It is important that when you are looking to find the right tax represent that you understand that there are people out there collecting and selling leads. They usually claim to be part of a team of professionals, rather than saying exactly who this team is. They create landing pages and sell the leads to the highest bidder.

Sometimes that team may be an accountant who is looking for extra business and tax preparation is actually their main business. If that is the case, they may not know that training as an accountant does not prepare one with the knowledge necessary to be able to work in your best interest.

It also could be a trustee looking to find people in tax trouble who may have to go bankrupt. Being that the trustee's duty of care is to the crown and the creditors and you are the bottom of the duty of care list, one has to wonder if this is a conflict of interest.

If the tax representative firm is a member of our society, they have to identify on their web site who their team actually is.

So our advice is to ask questions about who works for the firm and who exactly will be handling your case.

About Tax Representatives;

Having a good Tax Representative on your team, is more than just a tax problem service. Therefore, make sure that the firm you choose to represent you, when you say "I am being audited" is the person who really knows the ropes. Members of this society have to meet our standards and one of the main ones is to have earned the right to announce that they are a member of the Society of Professional Tax Representatives.
